圈二(circle series no.2)

Group exhibition: Lena Bergendahl, Kah Bee Chow, Max Ockborn, Jiajia Zhang

For the second round of the circle series, Lena Bergendahl, Kah Bee Chow, Max Ockborn and Jiajia Zhang come together in former boom town St.Gallen to hear birds whistle and foxes blow kisses. It is the inaugural exhibition at 印, a former Kiosk integrated into the architecture of a residential building in the east of town. Although the textile industry never fully recovered from the depression, its embroidered textiles are still popular with Parisian haute couture designers. Within Otto Glaus’ modernist housing units, the artists will eat, produce, gather, sleep, celebrate and show. A full circle to go round and around.

Birds are often discouraged by windows. The hard transparent stone doesn't give what it promises; flight. In the Upside Down, they can wander around but their batteries need to be recharged every half hour. The botanical specimens are neatly flattened on blank pages handled by clean white cotton gloves. They (are) matter. Some fabric dressing walls that need dressing. They build form. In 1983, we were zero, one, two and three. At the Kiosk, we were still too underaged to buy cigarettes. We took refuge in the forest nearby, coming into town only to get a faster connection to the internet. We sat in a circle and creatures came out to join us. We were residents, we are visitors. In the forest, Hans Oettli wears a black jacket, olive green trousers and wholesome shoes. "The old clothes are more so that they do not rustle like modern things. The animals do not like it.”
